KOLKATA: Mystery shrouds the death of
Joydeep Chowdhury, a young researcher from Nimta in North Dum Dum, whose body was found on Tuesday evening at his hostel in
Saudi Arabia, where he was pursuing higher studies.
His bereaved parents — father, Ratan Kumar Chowdhury, a former BSNL officer, and mother, Rupa, a retired postal department official — are devastated by their son's sudden and unexplained death. They have urged the Bengal govt to intervene and ensure a thorough investigation. The elderly couple also sought the administration's assistance in expediting the repatriation of their son's body and uncovering the circumstances behind his death.
According to local sources, Chowdhury, a resident of New Road in Nimta's Mandipara, located in Ward 27 of North Dum Dum Municipality, earned his PhD in Statistics from the prestigious Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) in Baranagar in 2020. Two years later, in 2022, he secured a position at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia for a postdoctoral research program. At the time of his untimely death, he was residing in the university hostel, deeply engaged in his academic pursuits.
